AgilityEco: Proud sponsor of Get Connected

The Chief Executive of energy efficiency specialist AgilityEco, Gearóid Lane, has revealed he will be cycling 900 miles over nine countries in nine days in aid of the Get Connected charity, which offers free, confidential help for young people under 25.  AgilityEco will be supporting this fundraising challenge and providing further financial support to Get Connected later in the year.

The first ever Ride 999 challenge begins on 23 May and will see 20 riders take on the ride of their lives by cycling 900 miles from London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic VeloPark to Milan. Each rider will raise a minimum of £2000 which will go towards funding the Get Connected helpline for a year, supporting 250,000 children and young people who have nowhere else to turn. The event is on track to raise an estimated £130,000.

During the ride, experienced cyclist Gearoid will burn up to 8,333 calories a day – the equivalent of eating 32 Mars Bars a day.  He is expected to spin his wheels at least 673,200 times during the course of the ride and will spend on average 5,400 minutes on his racing bike.

Gearóid Lane is Chair of Trustees of Get Connected. Along with three others, he organised the Ride 999 event after hatching the idea in a pub one evening, and this will be his first fundraising challenge with the team of Ride 999 cyclists for Get Connected.  Prior to this, Gearóid has climbed Kilimanjaro, cycled 780 miles around Britain, ran a 100km ultramarathon and completed the London Triathlon for various charities, including Get Connected. AgilityEco is proud to support Gearoid’s cross country ride and has committed to helping him smash his fundraising target for Get Connected.

Gearóid Lane, CEO of AgilityEco said: “I’m proud to be supporting Get Connected, which provides free, confidential help for young people under 25. Young people have never been more in need of help and support, and the money that we raise will be enough to provide support to 40,000 teenagers and young adults over the next year. Although I’ve taken on some tough challenges in my time, this one takes the biscuit – and I’ve just gone and made it harder for myself by breaking my foot at a crucial time in the training.“

John Schless, Director of Fundraising at Get Connected said:  We are excited that the Ride 999 team are about to embark on this epic challenge, supporting 250,000 young people and children who need help. Gearóid and the rest of the Ride 999 team have shown extraordinary commitment to ensuring that young people all over the UK can find the most appropriate help and support for their situation. With this kind of support we can continue to expand our service and help even more children and young people every year.”
