LEAP in Renfrewshire: Reaching out to Scottish homes

25 March 2026

The tailored energy advice provided by AgilityEco’s Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP) outreach service is making a real difference to many residents’ lives across Renfrewshire in west central Scotland. Ian Gillespie, a trained Home Energy Advisor (HEA) working in the region, affirmed: “It's about helping not just the customer, but the community. It makes a huge impact.”

How LEAP works

LEAP is a free service funded by energy suppliers under the Warm Home Discount Industry Initiative. Since 2015 we’ve been partnering with local councils, charities, community organisations and housing associations across the UK to help people at risk of fuel poverty to stay warm, safe and financially secure.

Spreading the message in Scotland

In early 2024 we began serving the Renfrewshire area, providing energy efficiency advice and practical support through phone calls and home visits. Since then, we’ve seen increasing demand from both tenants and homeowners, particularly during the chilly winter months.

Up to January 2026, LEAP provided 472 Renfrewshire households with energy advice, leading to an estimated £205,301 in total lifetime bill savings for the residents.

Supporting physical health and mental wellbeing

Ian Gillespie raises awareness of LEAP through drop-in sessions at local community hubs. Over time, more people are becoming aware of the service, benefitting greatly from its support and letting friends and families know what kind of help is available.

As well as home energy efficiency advice (including free small energy-saving measures such as LED lightbulbs and draughtproofing), LEAP offers appliance replacement, debt guidance and referral on to other organisations for further help.
