Celebrating progress and reinforcing urgency: Net Zero Week 2025

11 July 2025

It’s Net Zero Week, and at AgilityEco, alongside combating fuel poverty, supporting a net zero future is at the heart of everything we do. We’re committed to empowering Britain’s households to enhance their energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions; however, we recognise there is still a long way to go.

Our impact

We sat down with Jenny Boyce, Director of Community Schemes at AgilityEco, who oversees our LEAP service, and Craig Thomson, Director of Operations at Aran, to discuss why Net Zero Week is important and how AgilityEco contributes to and will continue to support the net zero agenda moving forward.

Challenges to achieving net zero

While we're proud of our achievements, with 80% of the homes we'll live in by 2050 already built and 16.3 million homes in Great Britain still rated below EPC C, we recognise that there's still much work to be done.

Our recent collaborative report with Baringa found:

  • Transitioning to low-carbon home systems could cut emissions by nearly 18% (National Audit Office)
  • Upgrading homes to EPC C could unlock £140 billion in economic benefits by 2040
  • Effective insulation could reduce the UK's emissions by 5%

But to unlock this potential, we need:

  1. A committed Warm Homes Plan underpinned by stable and long-term funding to provide certainty for investors and the sector
  2. A consistent policy framework to help avoid disruptions and maintain momentum

We’ve written an open letter to the Government urging them to commit to funding domestic retrofit schemes until at least 2035 as part of the Warm Homes Plan.

Schemes like the Energy Company Obligation, Boiler Upgrade Scheme, and Warm Homes: Local Grant are all delivering positive outcomes. But to truly transform the UK’s housing stock, end the scourge of fuel poverty, and significantly reduce UK greenhouse gas emissions, we need long-term certainty.
