The value of the UK retrofit sector

With the long-awaited launch of the government’s Warm Homes Plan (WHP) initiative due soon, we look forward to helping more local authorities and social housing providers deliver effective home energy efficiency upgrades across the UK.
A welcome commitment to ongoing service
In autumn we welcomed the Budget commitment of an added £1.5 billion towards the Warm Homes Plan to support insulation and low-carbon heating upgrades, as a means of easing the transition between the ECO scheme wind-down and the full WHP roll-out.
We’re continuing to deliver ECO projects before the scheme ceases at the end of March, but we’re pleased to see these extra funds allocated to ensure vulnerable households don’t experience a dip in service while the WHP is set up. Delays could lead to many people missing out on lower energy bills and warmer homes.
An experienced retrofit partner for local authorities
In terms of funding, we’re already delivering the Warm Homes: Local Grant (WH:LG) scheme with local authorities including Portsmouth City Council, Oxfordshire County Council and North Northamptonshire Council, following successful projects under WH:LG’s predecessor, the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) scheme.
Experts in warmer, greener social housing
Along with Aran, our installer, we’ve completed multiple high-quality installs under the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) – now Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund (WH:SHF) – for housing providers including Cambridge City Council, Folkestone & Hythe District Council and Paradigm Housing Group across South East England.
Supporting the Warm Homes Plan
Changes in policy needn’t slow UK progress towards fuel poverty and decarbonisation goals when such a wealth of experience is already available in the retrofit sector. We remain committed to using our expertise to keep creating warmer, healthier homes for vulnerable residents under this new plan.
