Solar panels
Solar panels are an increasingly popular renewable energy measure, with rising fuel costs and the government’s commitment to solar investment as part of its Warm Homes Plan driving demand for PV installations.
A solar PV installation enables residents to:
- Save on bills – how much they save depends on the number/position of panels and the way they use electricity
- Receive payment for any extra electricity the panels generate, by selling it back to their supplier
- Reduce a property’s carbon emissions
- Increase a property’s value by improving the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating
Katie’s Story: How solar supports a busy family in Oxfordshire
Council worker and mum Katie was distributing flyers about free solar installation in her area when she realised her own household was eligible. Now solar panels and a solar battery are helping to ease energy costs and keep her busy family warm all year round.
Installing solar PV
Solar panel systems work best under clear, sunny skies, but can produce electricity even on cloudy days. To ensure residents get maximum benefit from solar PV panels, our teams start by assessing the roof pitch/orientation and any overshading from trees or other buildings, then let occupants know how much electricity they can expect to generate.
An average domestic installation takes a day, while larger sites may take longer, with solar technicians and electricians working together to ensure safe, effective installation. Panels are made to last for 25+ years and need very little maintenance.
Solar battery storage
We can also install solar battery storage alongside PV systems, enabling residents to store electricity generated during the day, then use it at night.
Case Study: Free solar installations in Scotland
Building on the support our Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP) outreach service gives Perthshire residents, we delivered free solar PV installs for 214 homes between November 2025 and March 2026, helping reduce energy costs and improve energy efficiency across the region.
Delivering Warm Homes funding
Agility helps social housing providers, local councils and housing associations to access grant funding including Warm Homes: Local Grant and Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund to support the installation of home energy efficiency improvements including solar PV, solar batteries, wall insulation, roof insulation and air source heat pumps (ASHP).
Many grants are open to a wide range of households, with some being means-tested (on income or benefits received) while others can be accessed regardless of financial circumstances. Eligibility may depend on factors such as property type, energy performance, and postcode.
